Classes, Training, and... a new visa! (20220901 Newsletter)
On Thursday mornings I enjoy a special time with God in a pine forest situated on the Nile River. One day as I was walking through the forest singing hymns of praise, I realized how blessed I am to be serving the Lord here in Uganda. There is no other place I’d rather be! Local Christians are being raised up to serve the Lord. Welcome Home kids are growing and learning about Jesus. It’s an exciting time. These are my focus ministries:
Christian Basics Class: Josephine (whom I trained) is teaching
others to take over the Christian Basics Class. They have 15 people in
attendance (including new believers). Eventually the new teachers will lead a
Basics Class in their own villages.
Sunday School Teacher Training Class: Students are excited about
this class. They are using the ideas, games and activities they learn in the
class with their students. The plan is to finish the training with how to use
the 5 senses in class, making homemade visuals and using hand motions in
teaching, and then some ideas for discipline.
How to lead a Bible study: I'm excited about a new class we just
started a few weeks ago on how to lead a Bible study. This is a workshop for
local village pastors and other local church leaders. Lots of positive feedback.
When trained, our students will lead an ongoing Bible study for those who
complete the basics class.
Reading Class: When the pastors and Sunday School teachers I work with
asked me how they can teach the Bible when they can’t read the Bible I knew we
had to start a reading class. I am training Betty (a new “mom” at Welcome home)
to teach this class. It will be an English phonics program taught in Luganda
for those who speak and want to learn to read Luganda. (think about that for a
minute!)
Bible Study: I'm also leading a Bible study on the gifts of the
Holy Spirit at a missionary friends' house in another village. We have two
couples that attend, a local church leader, Joseph (who I led to Christ) and
sometimes others. Lots of good discussion going on.
I finally got my missionary visa allowing me to volunteer in Uganda for
two years. HALLELUJAH! We have been praying for this for over three years.
Skin cancer is back on my face. Please help me get rid of this with your
prayers.
I will be visiting California at the end of October for
about 5 weeks. PLEASE: Does anyone have a car I can use during that
time? Also would any of you like some company for a few days/weeks?
