Training and Teaching Others to do the Work of the Lord (20220301 Newsletter)

God is good and I am so blessed to be serving Him in Uganda.

I know my life and ministry will be winding down eventually (I’m 67 years young) and I know the best use of my time is training others to do the work of ministry (2 Tim. 2:2). My heart’s desire is to impart my training, education, giftings and knowledge to young men and women who will be able to carry on the work once I’m gone (although I’m not making plans).

During the Covid lockdown, village pastors of two churches working together, went door to door praying for people and meeting needs. As a result, the two churches grew from about 50 to... (just the Sunday school has over 150 children). People responded to the love that was shown, but the churches are not equipped or trained to deal with the abundance of new believers and children.

This year I am focusing on three projects:

1. 1.  I am training a few of the Welcome Home local staff to work with me in training 20 new village Sunday school teachers. They will learn new ways to fun teach Bible verses, how to make a lesson plan, lead Bible games and how to teach children to pray. They will also learn the basics of leading a child to Christ.

2. I am working with Welcome Home local staff to train village believers in follow-up and discipleship of new believers. Part of this is also training in sharing the Gospel and leading someone to Christ. A few from other churches have asked for training in this so I have also invited them. I’m excited as this has been my burden and calling since I have been a Christian.

 3.   I meet with a group of young men (ages 15-30) once a week for discipleship. Last week they asked me how they can know God’s will for their lives. I explained that it starts with an absolute complete surrender of one’s life to God. Sometimes God will only reveal His will after we surrender to Him.

I also try to work with Welcome Home kids on Saturdays to challenge their minds through games and various fun activities.

I am so grateful for your continued love, prayers and support. There are unique challenges to living in a developing country and it is a blessing to know you are praying for me.
