10 year anniversary of Kigali International Community School-20160918

Dear Friends and Family,

Kigali International Community School just celebrated its 10-year anniversary. We had a 1½ hour celebration at church to give thanks to God on Friday. On Saturday we offered a free 4 hour games and food festival for the neighborhood as a thank you for hosting our school for the last 10 years. In the evening we had afund raiser dinner for parents and teachers. I was impressed to meet or see theambassador of South Korea, the executive head of the Rwandan department of education, a personal letter of congratulations from the global president of ACSI and a letter from his excellency, Paul Kagami. The festival, church service and part of the dinner was organized and run by our secondary students. Our director, Dr. Ben Thomas, gave a vision for the next 10 years. WOW! Our school is very well known throughout Rwanda as well as East Africa, is the best elementary and secondary school in the nation and is headed to be one of the top quality, excellent schools in Africa. The vision from our director was very specific, extensive and huge.

My initial response was that parents will be paying a lot to enroll their students at KICS and I was afraid it would become a school that only the rich could afford. I then realized that 80% of KICS students are on some kind of financial aid. We have many children of refugees, missionaries, and Rwandans from poor financial situations.I know God will help us reach our vision a we also continue to help the poor.

The purpose of KICS is to: provide a Christ-centered, U.S. accredited primary and secondary education that challenges students to excel academically and live out a biblical worldview. The vision of KICS is to impact the world for Christ by preparing servant leaders who choose character before career, wisdom beyond scholarship, service above self, and a lifestyle of participation over apathy.
I’m excited about what God is going to do through KICS in this nation. I feel humbled to be a part of it. I thank God for each of you who share in this vision through your prayers, finances, encouragement and love. Thanks for being such an important part of this mission.

Blessed to Bless,
Janet
