I'm back in Uganda! (20220201 Newsletter)

Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you so much for the fellowship, the fun, the laughter, but most of all, thank you for your love, prayers and support as I worked on my Visa and moved my mother into assisted living (She is doing well and has made friends already). God was with me, helping me every step of the way. What a blessing and encouragement! I really enjoyed my time in the States, busy as it was.

I’m glad to be home! After a long journey and catching up on sleep and happenings, I’m starting to organize my Sunday School training and Bible studies in the village. Here’s a little bit of what has been happening at Welcome Home:

Alex Bunya has been teaching the younger kids (the older ones are back in school) and doing an outstanding job. This frees me to concentrate on village ministry (which he will be helping me with).

Our babies in the preemie house are growing strong. Their “Moms” work hard to provide proper love and care.

A few of our children: (Names were changed and no picture posted to protect the children’s privacy)

“Caleb” is a newborn we have had the privilege of caring for. Caleb was stabbed and thrown into a pit toilet by his mother who wanted to work as a maid in the Middle East. Villagers heard the baby cry and rescued him. He was taken to the hospital for treatment then brought to Welcome Home where he stayed for 6 months while the government processed his paperwork for foster care. One of the families who rescued him decided to foster him while his future is decided.

“Peter and Andrew” are twins who were born prematurely. Their mother is sick with breast problems and cannot feed them while their father works in manual labor as a day worker and is presently unemployed.

Parents of Welcome Home children are required to make regular visits to Welcome Home so their children have a chance to bond. When the child is ready to return to their parents, they leave Welcome Home with three goats, bedding, clothes and toys. Our social worker visits them twice a year for follow-up and the child will receive free medical care until they are 10 years old.

I am proud to work with Welcome Home and humbled with the assignments God has given me. This is new for me. I will be developing training curriculum from scratch and teaching people to implement it in their village churches. I will also lead a Bible study. Thank you for your prayers as I follow by faith as God leads me.
