20200401 Newsletter-Being Quarantined in Uganda
My heart and prayers go out to each of you who have suffered because of the Corona Virus Pandemic.
Some of you are out of work and wondering where your next check will come from. Some are feeling lonely, alienated from friends or family. Most of you are separated from your Christian family, a main source of spiritual support.
A fear has gripped the world, not knowing how far, how fast the virus will spread, not knowing how long we will be in quarantine, not knowing how it will affect the economy, not knowing how long we can live on the food and supplies in our homes.
So, what is life like for me, and other missionaries, dealing with the Corona Crisis in Uganda?
< color: #1d2129;">Our borders are closed except to returning Ugandans who have to be quarantined on entry for 14 days... store shelves are not being restocked...local food is available until it is gone and if you can walk to the market to buy it since no public or private transportation is allowed on the road... we are banned from driving our vehicles for 14 days If we don’t have it in our house today, we will do without. Most businesses are closed without notice and only food businesses are allowed to sell but since workers have no public or private means to make it to work those will struggle to remain open as well. Medical facilities, pharmacies, hospitals are open but their supplies are limited and their employees must sleep at the facilities...if they will remain open. Ugandans have lost jobs, and cannot feed their families... starvation is real here... m
ost live day to day and eat with the money they make that day. They have no money nor supplies stored up and they are scared. Please pray for us… pray for Uganda as you pray for your families and as you pray for the world. We are all living in very challenging times.
The Good News
I have enjoyed speaking encouraging words and praying with people as I walk to and from Welcome Home. The locals looked forward to seeing me and chatting “from a distance”. In the midst of all of this, people are being strengthened in their faith. Am I scared? NO! I have a trustworthy Father who consistently protects and provides for me.
This is the opportunity for each of us who know Jesus to be that encouragement, that safe place pointing people to the Savior, giving them hope in knowing God is in control and He loves them. I’m excited to see what God is going to do through all this. He is ultimately in control.
Please pray
- Pray that this health crises will bring people to the Savior, that God would ultimately receive the glory and honor from every nation around the world.
- Please pray for Welcome Home, the place of refuge for more than 50 children and 56 staff. Their needs for food, medicine, etc. continue through all this. To donate directly to the support of Welcome Home Children’s Center- https://www.welcomehomeafrica.com/donate/.
- Pray for churches, Christian organizations and missionaries around the world who are losing necessary support and income due to job losses.
Praise
- Welcome Home children are happy and healthy.
- This quarantine has given me time to work on my book (a slow process)
- People are growing in their faith in God as a result of the virus.
