20190209-Urgent and Exciting News!

Dear Family and Friends,

First of all, I want to thank you for the love and prayers you’ve given me over the last 3 years.  It is such an encouragement to know you are praying for me and joining me in The Lord’s work in East Africa.

Secondly, As you know, I’m finishing my 3-year teaching contract with KICS in May. Although I love KICS with all its challenges and I will miss my students, it’s time to say “Goodbye”. God is leading me in another direction. I’m so excited to share what God is doing in this next chapter of my life.

I’ve been asked to teach basic Bible in two villages in Uganda. The villages are in a sugar cane plantation (outside of Jinja) where the people are extremely poor, work long hours for about $1 a day. Missionary friends of mine (Luke and Mandy Sydo-714-282-7050) adopted these villages as an outreach and opened a training center for women at risk, started churches (there are no other churches in these villages), and more recently opened wells so the people don’t have to drink the filthy water from the ground. I’ve been asked to teach basic Bible for spiritual growth. I may also teach English (helpful in a country where English is one of the official languages), and/or literacy so they can read the Bible for themselves. I’ve been to both villages a couple of times to teach and have had overwhelmingly positive feedback. I’m really excited about this new venture because it involves 3 things I love dearly: African villages, teaching and Bible.

With this mission comes some points of prayer and need:
  • Finances: At KICS I was receiving a small stipend (which was supported through the help of church members and others with a heart for Africa), government pension (through Rwanda), medical, housing. In Uganda I will receive only housing. This creates a need for extra financial support. I’ll need to raise a total of about $1400 per month. This will pay for my day to day expenses, village ministry, medical needs, and visa.
  • All the logistics of moving to another country.
