Merry Christmas from Rwanda
Luk 2:10 And the angel said to
them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be
for all the people…”
Dear Friends and Family,
The good news of Jesus’ love, how He sees His perfect design and holy likeness when He looks at me, and how I am destined to His plan and purpose brings me great joy. This is the Gospel. This is the joy Jesus talks about. If it doesn’t bring great joy it is not the good news.
This year has brought much personal growth and with it many challenges. Several of my students have grown closer to God this year or have made significant decisions for Christ. I’ve worked through some hard stuff with middle schoolers facing bullying and trying to establish their identity. I love the passion they have, and I know God will use that passion for His glory.
The end of this school year will bring me joy as I watch a student I’ve had for the last 3 years graduate from high school. Another shy and scared 8th grader last night demonstrated his ability in a Christmas play. Still another graduated from ELL and is now studying French. I’ve seen those who enrolled new to KICS this year with no English ability become conversational, literate (jumping 2 or 3 grade levels in reading in 4 months) and growing in writing skills. Most importantly, I’ve seen them grow in desire to know Jesus.
A bit a fear and intimidation hit me when I was asked to teach my cell group. Our cell is made up of the richest 3% of Rwandans in the country. One works for the UN. Another is a member of parliament. Another is head of our school board. Another is a leader of a top university here in Rwanda. They are all mature Christians who have known God for many years. I thought, “What can I offer?”. Last week we concluded a 7-week series on faith. The feedback I received demonstrated again that God can use even me!
In one week I will go to Uganda with a preschool teacher from another Rwandan school to bring Christmas to the boys and girls and staff at Welcome Home. https://www.welcomehomeafrica.com/.
The following week I will travel to Burundi to train teachers in helping ELL students. Their school's student body is 80% English Language Learners but they have no one to help With ELL. This will be the first time I'll be doing this kind of training (for another school) so I would appreciate your prayers. I'll be there from Jan 6-12. This will be an extension and outreach of KICS.
Please continue to pray for me as I travel, meet people and minister cross culturally. Thank you for remembering Rwanda in your year-end giving.
