Africa Team from VCC

Dear Family and Friends,
What can I say? Being in the States and visiting with people who have a heart for missions, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones, this summer is one I will always remember.

I got to go to camp! Forest Home granted me a scholarship (worth $850) to spend a week in the mountains fellowshipping with my God, enjoying good teaching and meeting some great people. I did everything from laser tag to zip lines. How great is that?

Many people have blessed me in many ways: Some provide a vehicle to get around in, others provide needed skills in cooking, one man gave me a helmet, dear friends of mine opened their house for me to stay, drove me to and from camp and did the airport pickup/drop-off and loved on me while I was there. I also got to go to a murder mystery dinner to help fund a mission team going to China.

I have been blessed out of my gourd (if I had one) by three ladies who worked hard to raise funds so they can have an inside view of what my life is like as a missionary in East Africa. As I expected, they all fell in love with Africa and want to come back. More importantly, all of our lives were impacted by the experience. I will remember this experience for the rest of my life! So, what did we do and what did we experience that made such an impact on us?
Anna, Lisa and Shelly, child experts (and myself) make up the Africa Team
In Rwanda: (3.5 days)
  • We went to the Genocide Memorial to understand the pain of Rwanda.
  • Cultural walk to experience how people in the village live.
  • The team went to my cell group and worshipped with Rwandan believers.
  • We visited Lisa's compassion child at her home.
  • We went to a local market and haggled like locals.
  • Saw Janet's school and met some staff.

In Uganda (6 days)
  • The team trained "moms" at Welcome Home how to play with the children, teaching activities, doing devotions, and loving on children and staff.
  • We Organized activities for children in the village, teaching Bible stories, and loving on kids while Janet modeled teaching ESL to the leaders of the adult ministry.
  • We toured the Nile by boat
  • The team joined a home fellowship and experienced bilingual worship
  • We went on a safari!
We had so much fun ministering God's love to people and just having fun!

It didn’t cost me a cent-the team raised funds that covered everything for me.
Children are always a joy!

(however, there was a dark side of this mission trip):
  • Our van broke down in the middle of nowhere (opening an opportunity to teach the love of Jesus through song to the local kids)
  • We were attacked or threatened by: elephants, crocodiles, bad drivers, pit latrines, tsee tsee flies, mosquitos, warthogs, baboons, long days and sleepless nights, and the pain of seeing how most Africans really live.
Thank you Lisa, Shelly, Anna for coming and experiencing East Africa with me. I love you!
