January 2017 Newsletter

Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you so much for your continued love, prayers, and financial support. It has really meant a lot to me.

I want you to “meet” one of my students. “Esther” is a Burundi refugee. She fled to Rwanda with what was left of her family after the genocide that devastated Rwanda and Burundi in 1994. Many people in Esther’s family died in the Genocide. Although Rwanda in being rebuilt through President Paul Kagame’s “vision 2020” plan, Burundi is experiencing continued genocide that has destroyed many families and devastated an entire country.

Esther is in my 10th grade ELL (English language learner) class. She is a Christian who loves Jesus with all her heart and wants to continue to grow into the beautiful woman of God He has destined her to be. She is willing to work for it. She studies very hard.

I remember last August when I met Esther. Although she is fluent in 5 or 6 other languages, English was not one of them. She was very shy, quiet, and afraid of making a mistake when speaking English. Esther had difficulty expressing her opinions and needs in English. All that has changed. Esther now gets involved in English conversation, debate and recently joined a drama team and performed before the whole school. She is now almost fluent in English. I am really proud of her.

Please pray for Esther as she is sick quite often. If you write me an email for her, I’ll make sure she gets it.

I have some good news. My school is paying for a round trip plane ticket to the States so hopefully I’ll be able to see some of you (especially if you live in the desert). More details about that later.

Thanks for your prayers as I deal with the difficulty of being a single older woman living alone in an African country (It’s worth it all). Come and visit if you can!

Blessed to Bless,

Janet Mulford
