China: Discipling New Christians
4/17/2012: The "3 self" church (government controlled) I attended had an English service made up of about 200 Chinese young people in their 20's who had been Christians for 2 years or less. They had a passion for Jesus Christ but knew very little about living the Christian life.
The church had a Korean pastor before I came. He was imprisoned for 4 months, then deported. While I attended, we had a Chinese pastor who disappeared one day with his family and no one has seen him since. The church then asked my Pakistani friend to lead the church. After awhile, the police began putting pressure on him so he backed off a bit. Next, the church approached me to lead the church. I told them I am not a pastor, I'm a teacher. I can't lead the church, but I can teach them how to have a relationship with Christ and become disciples through Bible study, prayer, faith, thinking based on truth, etc.
We met in a large basement converted lounge. I spent a year teaching them, training them, loving them. The Friday night fellowship was a chance to get to know fellow Chinese believers who I fell in love with.
