Uganda: Kikondo Village

12/12/95: Last week one of the mothers in our home got news that her daughter in the village was very sick.  I went with her to the village (Kikondo) to see about it.  As we walked to her home, the LVC (village leader) and another woman asked what I was doing in their village and where I was going.  When I told them who I was and that I was asked by the mother to visit her sick daughter, they replied, “You may pass”. While in the village, I saw the children; curious about the “Msungu” but afraid of me as well. They were dressed in rags and most had no shoes. The Lord burdened my heart for them as if He were calling me to a new ministry.

Yesterday I came with a picture book to share the Christmas story with the children. When I got out of the boat I thought, "what am I doing here-a single white American woman in an African village? I don't know anyone here, I don't speak the language and it's a Muslim village?". As I turned to get on the boat to go back, a Moslem man approached me and asked what I was doing there. I explained that I wanted to share the Christmas story with the children. He said, "Come".

I followed him to his home where he put a chair under a tree and yelled something in the vernacular. About 60 children came and about 30-40 adults. I shared the Christmas story and explained the Gospel. All the children and half of the adults received Jesus as savior.  PRAISE GOD!!!  They made me promise to come back which God has put on my heart to do.
