Uganda: The Little Girl in the Pink Party Dress
8/16/1995: Today as Jackie and I were in Children’s Hospital checking on babies, I saw a very beautiful little girl. She was about three years old and had on a pink party dress with extensive ruffles throughout the dress. I thought it was very odd to see her dressed like this especially in the hospital.
She was connected to an oxygen tank and was sleeping when I approached her bed. I said softly, “Hello little one”. The words had barely left my mouth when she breathed her last. I ran to get a doctor or nurse. I told three different people the little girl had stopped breathing. No one even came to her bed. I was the only one present when she died. No family or hospital staff was with her to provide peace and comfort.
I fought back tears, and then realized then why she had on the beautiful pink party dress. She was going to the greatest party of all, the party that awaited her in heaven. I know one day I will join her and we’ll have an awesome time of celebration together.

Little girl all alone
Your only friend a hospital bed
Where is your mother?
Where is your father?
Where are your sisters or your brothers?
Little girl I see you now
All alone in your hospital bed
I say “Hello, little one”
A gentle smile is passed from my heart.
“Hello, little one” all I can say,
But these small words took your breath away.
The oxygen tank now silent, nothing could be heard
But the moaning of children in the other rooms
Little pink party dress
You look so beautiful on the little girl
Take her to heaven where the party awaits
Take her to heaven where the party awaits.
