Uganda: To start a babies' home
5/1/1995: We
planned on staying in Kigali until we learned the thieves returned the
following night, robbed our house a second time, and roughed up our guard (again), demanding to know where we were.
Jackie and I were staying at a friend’s house while she recovered from
malaria and a concussion she got from the kicks during the robbery. Jackie had our board of directors and intercessors pray about what to do. They all said we should move to Uganda.
The assault actually turned out to be a positive for us as God promises to use everything for our good:
1) It moved us on to Uganda where we did start a home for dying babies.
2) It gave me a permanent demonstration of God's power to deliver me in any circumstances. Now, things that normally scare others don't scare me and I'm better able to serve God anywhere, doing anything, trusting His ability to protect me.
3) It encouraged many people to pray for us. During the first two weeks in Uganda, we have seen many attempts of the enemy to harm or kill us fail. God's people were praying.
For example, we have been in Kampala for 2 weeks staying with a church family. During that time we experienced the following:

For example, we have been in Kampala for 2 weeks staying with a church family. During that time we experienced the following:
- I was waiting on the sidewalk when a minibus jumped the curb and ran into me (not hurt),
- We were in the front seat of a minibus when it was in a headon collision with another minibus (not hurt),
- Jackie almost got her purse stolen, but didn't
- robbers tried to break into the house we were staying in (but couldn’t),
- There was a fire in our house,
- a cobra,
- corrupt police who tried to steal from us, etc.
The last morning in Kampala we awoke to the sound of Moslems saying prayers at 5:00am, followed by rifle crossfire, followed by a woman screaming, followed by machine gun fire, followed by silence. Jackie and I looked at each other and decided Kampala was not the best place to start a babies’ home.
